Bahamas, Abaco
After shooting some pictures, I tried something called fishing. It can be fun too. Thanks to the monumental incompetence of American Airlines, a #5 trout rod was the only tool at my disposal, but it got the job done.

After a long and compltely fruitless debate with the airline on where my luggage might be (it certainly didn't make it to Abaco), I developed a severe case of Rod Rage and steamed with fury as I stepped out on the flat just as the sun started setting. As I was pondering a fu...

The mosquitos were biting, the bonefish were tailing and I was juggling my rod, camera and cold Kalik. It was what you might call a pretty good November afternoon. Yeah, mon.
Most of the fish ate together in groups of 3-5 , but the bonefish with the superior organization ski...

With the sun at the right angle, the tailing bonefish flashed all over the mirror-like surface of the flat. The mosquitos were biting, the fish were splashing and I was juggling my rod, camera and cold Kalik. It was clearly an over average November afternoon. Yeah, mon.

A handful of hungry bonefish lurked around the mangroves as the tide rolled in. I hooked a bone and it quickly headed out to the open sea with its school. A bonefish of the adventurous kind ignored the panic and swam right up to me, perhaps with a peace-offering from the lea...

Even smallish bones can bend a #4 saltwater hook, it's usually just a matter of hook angle. With my luggage and main fly collection still at Heathrow, losing flies like this wasn't as cool as it normally is.

The flat did not disappoint, and just left of the mangrove bush in the center, a bonefish school is waiting in anticipiation for a suitable fly to suddenly appear. Which it did.

The flat did not disappoint. A school of bonefish were circling the mangrove bushes in search of a snack. Here an excellent illustration of why the bonefish earned the nickname Grey Ghosts, from the side they nest to invisible. From the top, however, they are hard to miss. missed.

Thick clouds, wind and some drops of rain arrived around noon. At 2pm, the day was over. Fishing wise that is, I still had to fill my daily Kalik quota. Which I managed with an heroic effort back at the hotel.
